Employee Spotlight: John Skarupa
Got computer woes? Imagine having your personal tech guru. We’ve got a few around here but this guy in particular, deserves a special shout out.
John Skarupa, a senior engineer at A2U, has worked countless hours (sometimes even through the night) to make sure our clients can start their workdays free of IT headaches. He’s always there when you need him – that’s why he’s this month’s “Employee Spotlight!”
Behind the scenes of everyday computer work, John is up to some pretty cool stuff. You can read more about him below:
Q: What’s your hometown?
A: Pittsburgh, Pa.
Q: What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
A: I truly enjoy working with others at the office. We have a good culture here. We get to work hard but also play hard. Our clients make it very rewarding, whether it is investigating issues or just being a lifeline for them to reach out to with questions. This job is very fast paced and it’s never the same from one day to the next. I am continually learning.
Q: How long have you worked at A2U?
A: This August marks one year.
Q: Where did you go to college?
A: Saint Francis University
Q: What does leadership mean to you?
A: Leadership is about trust and respect.
Q: Do you have a personal philosophy or motto?
A: Life’s tough, get a helmet!
Q: What have been the top three highlights of your life?
A:
1. Traveling to China to play volleyball during the summer of my junior year in high school. I was able to play against other countries and see the wonders of a foreign land.
2. Meeting the Great Hambino at the Denver International airport.
3. Being the godfather of my beautiful niece, Giana.
Q: What is the one thing you cannot resist?
A: I have a soft spot for dogs, especially Pitbulls. I rescued “my girl” several years ago from the Humane Society and she is an absolute sweetheart. She is a 55 lb. lap dog that loves to cuddle and give kisses.
Q: Can you tell us something that might surprise us about you?
A: I am the youngest of three siblings and standing at 6’9, that makes me the tallest in the family! (Yes, I did play basketball in case you were wondering).
Q: What’s your favorite movie?
A: Miracle
Q: What’s the best piece of advice you can share with recent graduates?
A: Invest in the future both financially and through education. You also should find a workplace that promotes continual learning. There should never be a learning ceiling and there should always be room for growth. On the financial side, take advantage of any 401K matching programs and save for the future. Enjoy yourself but limit spending.
Thank you John, for keeping our systems running like a well-oiled machine. We appreciate you!
Like awesome employees, we also appreciate our customers. That’s why we’re gearing up for the second annual A2U Kennywood Takeover Day on August 25th. Please email marketingteam@a2u.net to receive more information on this event!
